Joyce enjoys working with her chisel and mallet on a block of plaster letting her imagination go as human faces emerge from
the solid form.
Her process involves first mixing the plaster, pouring it into a form, and letting it harden. Once it has set, she removes
the form and begins the sculpting process. She finds excitement in watching her faces appear from the solid block of plaster.
Joyce began sculpting years ago after taking classes at the Villa Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, CA., and found that
she enjoyed the challenge of doing something different.
When asked about advice to other artists, Joyce commented that you don't get good until you realize if you don't like
it, you can change it. Be bold and work every day to keep your creative side alive. Joyce is also a painter who has an exhibition
at the Rood Center, Nevada City, for 3 months starting in March.
